How textiles and clothing there through 2009?
2009 will be a year that we will try to forget quickly! Overall consumption has resisted all products, but the reaction of consumers have been rigorous and the textile-clothing industry has been affected. Consumers have reduced their consumption of fashion. Result: after a decline of 3% in 2008, the decline in value was confirmed in 2009 and is even clearer in 2008 and is expected to reach 3.2%. The “average behavior” of consumer textiles and clothing have changed: they bought less and less.

Sluggish consumption of textiles and clothing has affected all markets in Europe and North America, and exports have been very misguided in 2009. We do not yet have figures for the whole year, but for the period January to October 2009, French exports of clothing have registered decline of 11% over the same period in 2008 with a decline of 9% to the countries of the European Union and a fall of 15% outside the European Union, whose 34% to Russia. At -22%, lower French textile exports is even more marked, especially towards the countries of the European Union.

In the IFM, we follow very closely what is happening with Internet. Internet sales now account for 6% of overall industry sales, is still a modest figure who can not reverse the general trend, but it is significant and we are all the more necessary to take into account the phenomenon In Britain, it already accounts for 9% of sales.
